This past week has been a busy one! Graduation at the local high school means lots of preparations, events, and parties! During the graduation ceremony, all I could think about was how much closer I’ve gotten to being there as a parent. Ok, it’s 7 years away. But I have a feeling that those seven years will go by faster than anyone can believe!

Chicken Coop Improvements

I also spent a lot of time doing nothing. I finished building a new chicken yard for the chickens. The plan was to be able to move it around… which went out the window the minute I tried to move it to the coop. I learned two valuable lessons. One, pulling an oblique muscle is very painful. Two, teenagers are way better at moving heavy things.

We’ve had a couple of incidents of neighborhood dogs coming into the yard and attempting to get the chickens. Although the coop held up well for their protection, it was chewed up. They’ve come back once since putting up the chicken yard, but couldn’t quite seem to know what to do. It’s not as secure as I would like to be, but it’s what we have for now.

The chickens have settled into it nicely and are enjoying walking on the roof of the coop.

Rooster!

Louis (formerly Lulu Leghorn) has finally learned how to crow. So far, none of the neighbors have said anything about him. Although, they might also be blaming the rooster a block away. He is quite loud and vocal. Meanwhile, Louis is still learning what it means to be the rooster in the hen house. LOL

The school will be out this coming week and I’m hoping that things will calm down for a week or so before all the summer activities get into full swing!
