Every Memorial Day Weekend, we drive across the state to my mother’s hometown and spend the weekend with family and friends doing all the Memorial Day activities. We decorate all the graves at the cemetery (some are over 100 years old!), tell the stories of our family history and honor all those family members who have served in the military. It’s all about connecting past to present.

We always stay at a nearby resort with rustic cabins. We want to maximize our family time and eating together is part of that. This year, I decided to use Wal-Mart’s Grocery Pick Up service to prepare, instead of the usual last-minute grocery run. No holiday crowds, no long register lines, no stress!

Save Time and My Sanity

Using their Grocery App,  I placed the order the day before we left and chose the pickup time to coincide with our drive through a nearby city. Super easy! The next day we joined several thousand of our friends hitting the road for the holiday weekend. Along the way we, we stopped at a Wal-Mart just off the freeway.

As we got to the store there bright orange signs that made it very easy for us to find the pickup area. We turned on the app and it automatically notified the store we had arrived. Within three minutes, a store employee came out with our order and helped me load everything into the car. He had me look at all the fresh produce to make sure it was acceptable and double checked that any substitutions were acceptable. The app gave me a choice on whether to have the groceries bagged or not at an additional cost. I chose not to, as most would go directly into a cooler and it was not a problem whatsoever. In fact, the whole process was simple and quick!

It’s good!

The prices for items on the app were the same as in the store, no jacked up prices. There is no extra charge for the service, but there is a $30 minimum order. You cannot use coupons, but you can enter the receipt in Wal-Mart’s Saving Catcher if there is a price cut on an item. Not only is it great for packing up for trips, but I can also see it as a great tool to stay on budget without any impulse buys. It, also, will save me a lot of time – time I could use for working on the house and the garden.
